NSP is one-stop solution through which various services starting from student application, application receipt, verification, processing, and disbursal of various scholarships to students are facilitated. National Scholarship Portal is taken as Mission Mode Project (MMP) under Digital India. This initiative aims at providing a Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent ‘SMART’ System for faster and effective disbursal of Scholarship to eligible applicants directly into their account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) without any leakages.

Educational Qualification
▶ Pre Matric Scholarship :- Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination and annual income of their parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 1.00 lakh.Scholarship will be available to the students of minority community studying in Classes I to X

▶ Post Matric Scholarship :- Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardians from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.00 lakh.Scholarship will be awarded to the students studying in Classes XI and XII including technical and vocational courses of this level including Polytechnics, ITIs, and other courses.

▶ Merit Cum Means (MCM) Scholarship :- Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardians from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.50 lakh.Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive examination will be eligible for the scholarship.

UGC- Schemes (University Grant Commission)

University Grants Commission (UGC) is the Apex body for the higher education system in India. University Grants Commission is also hosting some of its scholarships on the national scholarship portal. These scholarships will provide financial support to the students of college and university. The application procedure for NSP UGC Scholarship has started and the last date to apply for the scholarship is 5th February 2021 (Extended). UGC Scholarship Application Deadline Extended

UGC has extended the deadline of the online application procedure for the scholarship. All those students who have still not applied or renewed their application can be able to do so. The last date to apply for UGC scholarship on national scholarship portal is 20 January 2021 and the last date for the student verification by the institute has also been extended. Now the new date for verification is 5 February 2021. The application process on the national scholarship portal has started from 1st September 2020. For Indira Gandhi PG scholarship for the single girl child, university rank holder PG scholarship, North eastern region Ishan Uday special scheme, SC/ ST professional course PG scheme applications are still open. All the students who are interested to get a scholarship are required to fill the application form as soon as possible.

NSP Scholarships Selection Process:-

Fresh – As the number of scholarships for minorities available in a year is fixed and limited, it is necessary to lay down preference for selection. Inter-se selection weightage is to be given to poverty rather than marks (the applicant is required to submit an Income Certificate as per para-11(ii)). In case of same income, merit shall be generated from ‘Date of Birth’ criteria of applicant (senior is preferred).

Renewal – There is no merit list generation for renewal cases. Renewal applicant will get the scholarship if one has obtained 50% in his/her previous year’s examinations (at the same Institute and in same course) and his/her application is verified by all authorities (as designated by Ministry of Minority Affairs) and approved by State Governments/UTs.

 NSP Scholarships Distribution:- Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been notified as minority communities under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. A total of thirty (30) lakh scholarships are targeted to be distributed as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships, besides, Renewal scholarships

 How To Apply:: The Pre-Matric, Post Matric and Merit cum Means based Scholarship Schemes are online Schemes and one can apply for fresh or renewal Scholarship under any of these Schemes on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at www.scholarships.gov.in. Eligibility Criteria For Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme

  • The applicant must belong to domiciles of North Eastern states including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland ( for Ishan Uday special scholarship scheme only)
  • The applicant must be single girl child in the family (twin daughters can also apply) (only for PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl child)
  • An applicant’s age should be less than 30 years
  • The family income of the applicant must be less than 4.5 lakh
  • The applicant must have taken admission in the first year of any degree course(Ishan Uday scholarship). The applicant must have taken admission in the first year of the regular master degree program (PG Indira Gandhi scholarship)

Eligibility Criteria For PG Scholarship For University Rank Holders

  • The applicant must be a rank holder in their graduation exam (for PG scholarship for university rank holders)
  • The applicant must belong to SC/ST category (for PG scholarship scheme for SC/ST students)
  • An applicant must be pursuing the first year of post-graduation studies
  • The applicant must have secured 60% marks in graduation (for PG scholarship for university rank holders)
  • The maximum age limit of the applicant is 30 years

Procedure To Fill Institute’s Registration Form

  • Login: Now a login form will be open in front of you where you have to:-
    • Select academic year
    • Enter user ID
    • Now Enter password
    • Enter captcha code
    • Click to login into the NSP profile
  • Now a dialogue box will appear on your screen which will ask you to click on the ok option. You need to click on the ok option.
  • Registration form: Now a registration form will be open in front of you.
    •  On the registration form, first of all, you have to upload the identity proof of the institute’s Nodal officer. For this purpose, you need to click on choose file and select the image. Keep in mind that the image should be in PDF or JPEG format and not more than 200 KB in size. After that, you need to click on upload identity proof.
    • Now you need to enter all the required details in the registration form like:
      • AISHE/DISE/NCVT code
      • Name of Institute
      • Do you want to change the name as per AISHE/DISE directory in NSP?
      • Institute nature
      • Affiliated board/university name
      • Total student strength in the institute
      • Institute address
      • Institute state
      • District
      • URL of the institute’s website
      • Head of institution detail
      • Details of designated Institute Nodal officer for NSP
  • OTP: An OTP will be sent on the registered mobile number of the Nodal officer of the Institute. You need to enter the OTP in the OTP box and fill all other relevant information
  • You need to fill in all this information very carefully and before finally submitting the form you have to save the entered information by clicking the save form option after that you need to click on the final submit
  • Reference ID: After finally submitting the form a reference ID will be generated and the form will be transferred to district Nodal officer
  • Print Out: You need to take the printout of this form and submit it to the district Nodal officer. The form should be duly signed and stamped.

Procedure To Update Profile Of The Institute

If the registration form is approved by the district Nodal officer then the new password will be sent on the registered mobile number of the Institute Nodal officer. In order to make the profile functional, the institute Nodal officer is required to login with a new password and follow the steps given below:-

    • Now enter the user ID

  • OTP: Now OTP will be sent to the institute Nodal officer’s registered mobile number. You are required to enter the OTP and click on confirm OTP
  • Reset Password: Now a new page will be open in front of you where you have to reset your password. After that, you are required to click on submit. Now you need to click on continue to login.
  • Update Profile: Now the institute Nodal officer is required to update the profile. For this purpose click on administration. After that click on update profile.
  • OTP: Now OTP will be sent on the registered mobile number. You are required to enter the OTP and click on confirm OTP.

Do’s For NSP Scholarship Form

  • Read the guidelines carefully: Applicants are required to read the guidelines of scholarship very carefully. The eligibility criteria, application guidelines, ineligibility etc are to be read very carefully in order to avoid any confusion in the next stage.
  • Deadline should be tracked carefully: The deadline of the scholarship has to be tracked very carefully. Applicants should keep in mind the last date of the application while planning to apply for any scholarship.
  • Documents to be kept handy: All the documents like identity proof, address proof, income proof, bank account details etc have to be kept handy before filling the application form. The application remains incomplete without all the required documents. The applicants are also advised to keep a soft copy of all the documents in their devices so that a hassle-free application process can be ensured.
  • Proofread the application form: Before submitting the application the applicants are required to proofread the application and check every detail before final submission. Some scholarships do not allow correction after submission. Due to incorrect information sometimes your scholarship can also get rejected
  • Copy of submitted application should be kept: Keep the copy of the submitted application with you so that you can track its status. Applicants are required to make sure that the mobile number and email ID provided in the application form are working as the scholarship provider may contact for further selection or confirmation.

Don’ts For NSP Scholarship Form

  • Incomplete information should not be submitted: Never submit incomplete application forms. If the applicant has submitted an incomplete application form then his or her application will be rejected. As it is the responsibility of the applicant to submit complete application form by entering all the mandatory details.
  • Misleading information sources should be avoided: Avoid all the misleading information sources while applying for a scholarship. Get information from the trusted sources only. Always apply for the scholarship through the official website. For information purposes, different websites can be referred but applications must only be filled through the official website.
  • Keep login details secret: Applicants are required to keep their login details secret. Sharing your login details too many people may result in your scholarship getting rejected.
  • Avoid misleading information: Always fill the clear and concise information in the Application Form as misleading information will result in your application getting rejected. The provider considers all the information entered by you correct but if any information filled by you is found incorrect or misleading then your scholarship can get rejected.
  • Never wait for the last date: Always fill the application form before the last date in order to avoid any last-minute hassles. Sometimes the official portal stops working on the last day due to heavy traffic on the website. As a result of which you will not be able to submit the application. So all the applicants are advised to fill the application form before the last date.

Role Of Ministry Of Electronics And Information Technology

  • The ministry of Electronics and information technology is over all the owner of national scholarship portal
  • The ministry is also responsible for end to end processes of NSP
  • Ministry of Electronics and information technology is responsible for providing administrative approval for NSP to NIC
  • Other than that ministry is also responsible for providing input for value addition in NSP

Role Of Direct Benefit Transfer Mission, Cabinet Secretariat

  • DBT mission plays an important role in the administration of NSP
  • DBT is also responsible for overall coordination with all the scheme owner ministries, departments and other government bodies
  • DBT mission will also streamline the process and provide guidance to Ministry of Electronics and information technology and NIC from time to time
  • Review of standard operating procedures, guidelines, user manuals and other documents which are circulated with NSP users is also done by DBT mission
  • The designated officers from the mission is responsible for providing various approval for the important dates and deadlines of schemes which are onboarded on NSP
  • DBT mission is responsible for providing time-to-time guidance and suggestion for improvisation in NSP
  • Review of forms, reports, workflows etc for NSP is also done by DBT mission

Role Of National Informatics Centre

  • National informatics centre is a possible for developing and maintaining NSP

  • Integration and data exchange with external applications is also managed by NIC
  • The security audit of NSP is also undertaken by NIC

Role Of Helpdesk

  • The role of help desk is to provide first level assistance to the users of national scholarship portal
  • Helpdesk is also responsible in assisting the students for filling the registration application forms

Institute Nodal Officer Registration Process

  • From the academic year 2019-20 those institutes who are logining in for the first time will have to fill the institute nodal officer registration form
  • The Nodal Officer is required to login on NSP by using the user credentials and complete the registration form by entering all the required details
  • After that identity document is to be uploaded by the Nodal Officer
  • Nodal Officer is required to lock the form and take print out of it
  • After that the Nodal Officer have to get it attested by the head of the institute
  • The form is required to be submitted physically to the respective district/state/ministry Nodal Officer
  • The district/state/ministry Nodal Officer will verify this form and details entered in the form
  • After that he or she is required to approve or reject the institute Nodal Officer registration form details on the portal by using the option verify Institute registration form
  • After approval the user credential and new password will be sent on the registered mobile number of the institute Nodal Officer
  • Duplicate copy of the application form will be shared with Institute Nodal Officer
  • Institute Nodal Officer can login on the portal by using user credentials

First Level Verification Process Of NSP

  • The correctness of details in the application form should be verified by the institute Nodal Officer
  • The documents uploaded by the students should also be verified by the institute Nodal Officer and Institute level officer is required to keep the copies of supporting document which is submitted by the student as the district/state/ministry Nodal Officer can ask for copies from the institute Nodal Officer from time to time
  • The institute Nodal Officer can verify the application, reject the application or defect the application
  • If the institute Nodal Officer rejected or defect the application the reason for rejection or defect must be provided so that it can be provided to the student
  • Defected application will be returned to the student for correction
  • Student is required to correct the mistakes and then submit the application
  • It is the responsibility of Institute Nodal Officer to make sure that all the appropriate due diligence is done with accordance to the scheme guidelines and internal processes
  • Institute Nodal Officer is also responsible for scrutinizing the applications well in time by the institute
  • It is the responsibility of Institute Nodal Officer to ensure that no pending applications as on the last date of Level 1 verification is available
  • The institute Nodal Officer can also mark application as fake at any stage before the payment is made

District/State Level Nodal Officer Creation

  • When the ministry Nodal Officer create the user for state the login credentials for state nodal officers are created
  • The ministry Nodal Officer enters all the required details
  • After the entry of details in the system a unique username will be generated by the system and the username and password will be sent to the mobile number of the state Nodal Officer registered by the Ministry
  • When the state Nodal Officer create the user for district then the login credentials for district nodal officers are created
  • The state nodal officers enter all the required details
  • After the entry of details in the system a unique username will be generated by the system and the username and password will be sent on the registered mobile number of the district nodal officer registered by the state Nodal Officer
  • If there is change in district Nodal Officer then he or she shall approach the state Nodal Officer with the request to reset the password on change mobile number
  • If the state Nodal Officer is changed then the he or she can approach the ministry level Nodal Officer and request to reset the password and change mobile number

  • If there is any unauthorised activity on NSP the government can take legal action
  • NIC cannot directly answer any RTI related queries
  • The outcome of validation that are done by external agencies will be treated as final
  • Any grievance arising with such outcome will be dealt by the nodal verifying agency
  • NIC will be responsible for the safety of the data
  • The parties has required to take all the reasonable measures to achieve the objective of the project

Q.No.1. What should I do if I forget my ApplicationID?
Answer: The process of re-collection of the Application ID is given as below: “Student login-•>Forgot Registration Details?” then enter the basic fields accordingly and click on the button “Get Registration details”.

Q.No.2. How should I check the status of my application online?
Answer: You have to login under the option ‘Student Login’ by entering your Application Id and Password. Once login, you will be able to view the option ‘Check Your Status’. Under this option you can check your online status.

Q.No.3. How can I check whether the amount of my scholarship is credited in my bank account or not?
