National Pension Scheme

The National Pension Scheme was launched to provide pension to all central government employees. But later this scheme was started for all the citizens of India . Pension is provided after attaining the age of 60 years on investment through this scheme. The pension assets under management under this scheme have crossed the 6 lakh crore mark under National Pension and Atal Pension Yojana after a gap of 13 years.

  • It has been informed by the Ministry of Finance on 26 May 2021 that it has been announced by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority that an increase of 1 lakh crore in the last 7 months has been registered in the Pension Asset Under Management. In the last years, about 74.40 lakh government employees have subscribed under this scheme and 28.37 lakh non-government employees have subscribed to this scheme.
  •  Through which the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority of about 4.28 crore subscribers increased. The assets under management under National Pension Scheme and Atal Pension Yojana have increased to ₹ 603667.02 crore.

Till now government employees were registered in physical form under the National Pension Scheme . Which was done through an online module adopted by the Central Record Company Agency or the nodal offices of the government. Now the online facility to register under the National Pension Scheme is being started by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Vikas Padhikaran . Under this, now employees can open their NPS account online. The online process will be known as e-NPS. E-NPS will be hosted by CRA. Under which the subscriber can register himself and contribute under NPS.

eNPS – eNPS Registration

Objective of National Pension Scheme

  Benefits and Features of National Pension Scheme

  • The directors of this scheme will be provided pension after retirement.
  • If you have invested in the purchase of Annuity then you will get full tax exemption.
  • Additional deduction up to ₹ 50000 can be claimed under section 80CCE.
  • The subscriber of the National Pension Scheme can claim deduction of 10% of the gross income under section 80CCD(1) of the Income Tax Act, subject to an aggregate limit of Rs. Under section 80 CCE, this limit is 1.5 lakhs.
  • The minimum investment limit under National Pension Scheme is ₹6000.
  • If you are not able to invest as much as the minimum limit under the National Pension Scheme, then your account will be frozen and you will have to pay a penalty of ₹ 100 to get the account unfreezed.
  • Earlier, the contribution in this limit used to be 10 percent, which has now been increased from 10 percent to 14 percent by the government.
  • If the investor dies before the age of 60, then the pension amount will be given to the nominee.
  • The Finance Minister of India has decided to separate the National Pension Scheme Trust from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority.
  • The Directors of the National Pension Scheme are provided with a Permanent Retirement Account Number which is a 12 digit number. Investors can do transactions from this number.
  • Not more than one account can be opened under the National Pension Scheme .

National Pension Scheme Account Types

There are two types of accounts in the National Pension Scheme which are as follows:-

  • Tier 1- Whatever money will be deposited in this account, I cannot withdraw prematurely. It is not mandatory for you to be a Tier 2 account holder to open this account. You can withdraw money only when you are out of the scheme.
  • Tier 2- To open this account, you must be an account holder of Tier 1. You can deposit or withdraw money as per your wish. It is not mandatory for everyone to open this account.
